First steps to a good interview

Interviews can be tough.

Almira Wagley, who’s an expert in human resources and is also a culinary professional, had some specific advice for C-CAP Arizona scholarship candidates.

“These are group interviews,” she points out. “You can’t look for an ally in a group interview.”

Almira suggests taking a careful approach to group interviews, and has some specific ideas.

“First, review your application. Think about any thing you’ve included or left out or unanswered, especially in your essay, that might generate questions.”

This gives you a chance to develop answers ahead of time. These answers should be brief and address the question directly.

If your grade point average is not where you’d like it to be, be ready to demonstrate that you’ve made consistent improvements.

Be ready, too, to explain why your grades are where they are (for instance, they’re a tad low, but you hold down two jobs and also participate in other school activities besides culinary).

“You want to show that you’re sincere and focused on your goals, but also understand that you’re responsible for school, work and family obligations,” Almira says.

Check this spot all through the coming week for more ideas and tips about getting through this crucial interview. We’ll feature more information and new tips every day until it’s time for finals!
