Of course you’re intense about your culinary career. You love food, you love cooking, you love making people happy with your food.
The trick is, how do you communicate this in a genuine, positive way?
It’s not hard, but you do need to spend some time thinking about this.
This will give you a few clues. Do you love the challenge of the kitchen, solving the time puzzles and figuring out the best presentation possible?
Are you happiest welcoming people to the table, making sure everyone has the best evening and enjoys each moment?
How did you get your start in the kitchen? Did you work with your grandmother, mother, an aunt?
What are your best “food memories?”
As you think about this, see if you can’t create a few sentences that summarize this part of your life story.
Then, practice it. Be prepared to adapt it to fit any number of different questions from your interviewers.
Above all, make sure everything you say comes from your heart. People know when you’re sharing something that’s important to you. It shows in your voice, in the tilt of your head, in the way your eyes shine.
Tomorrow – passion, part two.
